Our True Reconciliation (2 Samuel 14:25-33)

Read 📖

Today’s reading is 2 Samuel 14:25-33

“Absalom answered Joab, “Behold, I sent word to you, ‘Come here, that I may send you to the king, to ask, “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.” Now therefore let me go into the presence of the king, and if there is guilt in me, let him put me to death.’”

2 Samuel 14:32

Reflect ❤️

Absalom had been living in limbo for two years—a weird space of no longer being banished but still forbidden to come into the presence of the king. He lived in uncertainty, unsure if he was still under David’s judgment or whether he had been pardoned. So, Absalom tried to find out (although setting fire to someone’s field is not a very polite way to get their attention).

Thankfully, we don’t experience the same uncertainty with God. Because of Jesus Christ, we are fully justified before God and are no longer under His wrath and judgment. Therefore, we no longer need to live wondering if we are still under judgment; instead, we can come into His presence freely.

In the end, David allowed Absalom back into his presence, but there is no mention of forgiveness, repentance, or reconciliation. In contrast, we have already been justified through Jesus Christ and don't need to experience the uncertainty that Absalom had. We can be confident in our justification and our access to the Father - True reconciliation.

Pray 🙏

Thank you Lord Jesus that through you I am justified and can come before the Father with confidence. Thank you that I can be sure of this. Please help me to remember your goodness when I am uncertain.
